Electric Factory turns 17 years old and offers $17 tickets to upcoming shows

This month marks 17 years since the current Electric Factory at 421 N. 7th Street between Callowhill and Spring Garden Streets opened it's doors. The venue features split level standing room only seating which allows you to get up close to the stage or hang over the balcony for great views, but even in the back you still feel part of an intimate concert experience. The first show was October 18, 1995 with Sonic Youth, but the big show was on October 19th when Bruce Springsteen really kicked things off.

The original 'Electric Factory' was near 22nd and Arch in the Fairmount section and was located in an old tire warehouse. That venue was open from 1968-1973. At the same time, Electric Factory Concerts was started by Larry Magid and has continued to promote great concerts in Philadelphia well after the original venue disappeared. The mid-sized Electric Factory was resurrected in it's current location (which happens to be an old electric factory) in '95 and Philadelphia has been a tour stop for a litany of incredible rock, hip hop, dance, etc acts since. It's hard to miss the telltale Ben Franklin atop the building as you drive across 676.

To celebrate the 17 year history of the current venue (that has seen it's fair share of incredible music in Philadelphia) they are offering a limited number of tickets to every show on the schedule for $17. If you pay in cash at the box office you'll get a t-shirt too, otherwise online purchases may have processing fees. Electric Factory Ticketmaster

There are plenty of awesome shows that qualify including Matisyahu, Cat Power, Citizen Cope, Grouplove, Nas & Lauryn Hill, Grace Potter & the Nocturals, Band of Horses, the xx, and Tommy Conwell. You can see the whole list on the Electric Factory's calendar. The $17 deal runs from 10/10 at noon to 10/27 at 6pm.
