Eric Suro Completes 'Solo' iron-distance triathlon 'Suroman'; Raises $7000+ for B+ Foundation

As many of us just enjoyed the nice day, or did some fall yard work, or maybe you were at the Paoli Blues Festival, there was one man who was taking on a grueling Iron-distance triathlon by himself in a solo race for charity. Eric Suro woke up early this morning in Allentown, PA. At about 6:15 am he hit the water and swam 2.4 miles. After a nice swim, he hopped on his bike and rode 112 miles down to Newark, DE where his parents live. Finally, came the 26.2 marathon run through White Clay Creek State Park. Eric finished up just before 8:15pm in a time of 13:58, that's 13 hours, 58 minutes. He called the entire endeavor the 'Suroman 2012'.

He wasn't totally alone as family, friends, and fellow triathletes accompanied him along the way or cheered him along the course lending much needed race support (water, energy bars, etc). A few years ago, Eric decided to take the challenge and get into shape. He admits he couldn't run more than three miles at the time, but setting and overcoming this personal challenge was just as simple as mind over matter.

Eric didn't just stop at gaining this overwhelming personal achievement. Eric took this one step further and turned the challenge into an opportunity to help out the community and do something good for others. He used Suroman and the months of his training leading up to today's race to raise money for The B+ Foundation. The foundation provides financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer, and provides childhood cancer research grants. Suroman has raised over $7000 so far.

Completing a race of this distance, no matter what the time but especially if under the 17 hour mark, is very hard to do and deserves to be applauded. Eric Suro ran a one man race today that consisted of three distances that most people can't complete even if taken one at a time. He also raised a lot of money for childhood cancer. That would be a successful day for a regular race that had many participants, race fees, race numbers, etc. This was just one guy. Although, I would be surprised if the Suroman 2013 consists of just Eric Suro. Hopefully he's inspired a few people to take that first step out the door to try to run that first mile, or maybe, someone else to give something back to their community.
