PA Voter ID Law Hearings Continue, Doylestown Breastfeeding Law, Instagram Explict Images

Last week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered the lower court to reconsider its decision not to block the voter ID law. The Commonwealth Court is set to hold an evidentiary hearing Tuesday morning in Harrisburg. Judge Robert Simpson is expected to hear testimony from state witnesses on the implementation of the voter ID law, as well as plaintiff witnesses on their experiences getting an ID from PennDOT. The Commonwealth has to prove two things. One is that people can go into PennDOT and get an ID fairly easily without having to do anything but sign an affirmation. And then the second thing the Commonwealth has to show is that no voters will be disenfranchised. A ruling is expected on or before October 2nd.

A new law in Doylestown means if a mother was breastfeeding in a store, it would be illegal for the business owner or manager to ask her to move, cover up or say something to embarrass her. Pennsylvania state law does give “permission” for mothers to breastfeed in public, but the ordinance in Doylestown goes a step further. The law makes it illegal to discriminate against a woman breastfeeding in public to the point where violators could be cited. The ordinance passed by a 6-to-3 margin Monday evening. Violators of the new law would not face criminal prosecution. Instead they could wind up before a local Human Relations Commission and have their names printed in the local paper.

Sexually explicit images on Instagram, the popular photo sharing App used by millions everyday are causing a stir among area parents. But it’s not just smartphones. Instagram is a free App that can be downloaded onto computers, laptops and iPods. The pictures are easy to find when you search terms like “instababes,” “instahorny,” or even “instaporn.” Special Agent John Brosnan says adults use these sites to entice children, which is criminal. The FBI says it’s up to services like Instagram to monitor the activity and notify authorities if they believe a crime has taken place. On its website, Instagram’s basic terms state you may not post nude or sexually suggestive photos, and that you must be 13 years or older. There is no way to confirm a users age, and at 5 million a week, there are more photos being uploaded than can be monitored by the site.
