No Late Night Curfew For Camden, No Clemency For Terrence Williams, Heavy Rain on the Way

A late-night business curfew will not go into effect tonight in Camden. A judge passed an injunction this morning prohibiting police from enforcing the ordinance that was passed by Camden City Council last city. It would require any business within 200 feet of a residential neighborhood to close by 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Restaurants that serve alcohol and gas stations are exempt, but not take-out and mini-marts would not. The law is intended to control crime. The goal would be a hope to reduce loitering and in turn drug offenses and other related crimes. Opponents say it will hurts business profits that could lead to firing workers or closing their doors. A trial to hear legality of the ordinance could come later this fall.

A Pennsylvania Parole Clemency Board failed to grant convicted murderer Terrance Williams a recommendation of clemency in the 1984 murder of Amos Norwood. The Board needs an unanimous decision to offer the recommendation, but voted just 3-2 in favor. Even if it had voted to approve, the decision is still ultimately up to the Governor. There is still a hearing later this week to determine if evidence of Williams' real motive was withheld at trial. Williams says he was abused by Norwood as a child and that's why he killed him, not in the course of a robbery as was presented at his trial. Williams was just 18 at the time of the murder. His execution is scheduled for Oct 3rd and will be the first execution in PA in 13 years, and will be the first one that was contested in over 50 years.

50-year-old John Grzyminski of Warrington plead guilty today to charges related to possession of pipe bombs back on May 10. His mother discovered them in the home they shared and called Police. They came out and discovered one on he had left on the kitchen counter and a few more upstairs. Grzyminski told authorities they were just â€œfirecrackersâ€ that he would use when he'd go hunting or out in the woods. They were found by the bomb squad to be highly explosive pipe bombs and rendered safe at the scene. The remnants were processed by the ATF.
