Beanie Sigel Arrested on I95; NFL Goes w/ Replacement Refs; Made in America Numbers?

Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel aka Dwight E. Grant and a friend, Gerald Andrews, were arrested earlier Wednesday morning at 3:14 am on I-95 in Tinicum Township. Andrews was driving when they were pulled over for tailgating and swerving out of their lane. A weapons check turned up some pills, a small amount of marijuana, and a bottle of codeine, plus a gun. They were both charged with drug and weapons violations. Sigel's latest album, This Time, was released yesterday. He was supposed to turn himself in to federal prison September 12th to serve a two sentence for failing to pay income taxes.

The NFL announced today that the season will start with replacement officials. Week 1 begins next Wednesday night with the Cowboys visiting the Giants. The NFL Referees Association has been locked out since early June. Negotiations between the league and the officials' union have been at a standstill. Replacements have been used throughout the preseason, and have been used before in Week 1 of the 2001 season before a contract was agreed upon. The sooner the better for all sides getting the veterans back in stripes.

It doesn't seem like anyone wants to talk about numbers when it comes to the upcoming “Made in America” concert being staged on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Mayor Nutter says official budget numbers won't be available until the end of September, but that “cost-sharing” will be going on between the city and the promoter to put the event on, not “profit-sharing.” The Mayor does say that the city will see many short-medium-and-long term benefits from staging this cultural event in the middle of our bustling metropolis. That's great, but tax payers want to see quantifiables. The promoter Live Nation won't say whether they will sell the 50,000 tickets per day goal or not, but are hopeful. If you can't afford the ever rising ticket prices, or are afraid of a pending fiasco, the whole thing will be video streamed on youtube.com/budmadeinamerica

Tonight, Mostly clear, Temperatures in the mid 70s in Philadelphia.
