Artist paints over Joe Paterno's halo, New PA law driving in floods, Beanie Sigel 2 years in prison

The downtown mural in State College has been changed again in light of the Freeh Report. Artist Michael Pilato had painted a halo above Joe Paterno's head after he passed away in January. After Thursday's report that implicated Paterno as well as other high ranking Penn State officers including former University President Graham Spanier in covering up aspects of Jerry Sandusky's child sex abuse case, Pilato felt he had to remove the halo from the painting. He added a blue ribbon to Paterno's lapel symbolizing support for child abuse victims. Sandusky had been removed from the mural and Pilato hasn't made a decision on Spanier's image.

A new law in Pennsylvania is aimed at preventing and penalizing those who drive into flood waters thinking they can cross. Flash flood waters from rising streams, creeks, and poor drainage during thunderstorms or tropical rains can be deceiving. Only two feet of water is enough to float a car. This law, called â€œTurn Around, Don't Drownâ€, is aimed just as much at awareness of the real dangers as it is about the penalties. Every time a motorist gets trapped in a flood and needs rescue they put at risk the lives of the fire, medical, and police who have to go out in the storm and into the flood waters to get them. It also costs a lot of money to send out all those people and equipment. The law allows for a ticketed fine of $250 to $500 for a violation, two points on the offender's driver's license, and the cost of any rescue by first responders. The law takes effect in September, just in time for the peak of hurricane season. Hopefully people will stop trying to drive through flooded roadways, since not everyone believes the warnings maybe the hefty penalty will scare them.

Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel was sentenced to 2 years in prison this week after pleading guilty to tax evasion last year. Sigel failed to pay more than $728,000 in federal income taxes from 1999 to 2005. Sigel is not a stranger to the prison system having spent time there in 2004 on guns and drugs charges and again in 2008 on probation violations. He has to surrender to authorities on September 12. Before he walks back into jail though, Sigel has announced that his fifth album called This Time will be released on August 28th. The former Roc-A-Fella artist is now going to be the first release of the rebooted classic Philly label Ruffhouse Records.
