Seven injured in Haverford Train Accident, Wharton Forest Fire Contained, Chaput Removes 2 Priests

Seven people have been injured after a train accident along the SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line (previously known as the R100 and P&W) in Haverford Friday Night. At around 7:45, a rear car became briefly detached from the one in front of it. The cars then slammed back together and reattached, jolting the train. The accident happened between the Beachwood-Brookline and Penfield stations. The train stopped at the Wynnefield where police and SEPTA officials investigated the incident and medics tended to the injured. Six people were treated at the scene and one was brought to the hospital for observation. Shuttles were used for a few hours between 69th Street and Bryn Mawr until service was restored. An investigation is continuing.

A forest fire in the Wharton State Forest has been 100 percent contained according to a state environmental department spokesman. The fire consumed about 200 acres of woodland in the forest that borders Camden and Atlantic counties. It was first spotted on Thursday afternoon. No structures were ever threatened and no injuries are being reported. Officials will likely go in and control burn any untouched pockets within the wildfire's path. The initial cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Today Archbishop Chaput announced decisions on six more of the 26 Catholic priests the archdiocese suspended last year following a Philadelphia grand jury investigation into clergy sex abuse and misconduct involving children. Two of those priests were removed from ministry and four were restored to ministry. The 16-month investigation found that Rev. John Bowe, 64, and the Rev. David Givey, 68, had violated "standards of ministerial behavior and boundaries." Those violations fall short of actual sexual assault. They will either be stripped of their The four reinstated were Rev. Paul Castellani, 53, Rev. Steven Harris, 57, Rev. Leonard Peterson, 70, and Msgr. John Close, 68. The archdiocese previously ruled on eight priests on May 4th, removing five and restoring three. As in those decisions, they did not release any details about the allegations or their investigative findings.
