Earlier today authorities issued a warrant after the South Jersey man charged with DUI 5 times over a five week period failed to show up for his court hearing.

Anderson Sotomayor, 45, was out on $20,000 bail as of Monday. He spent about a month in jail after his 5th DWI arrest May 16th because he was also caught with prescription Oxycodone pills. His first 4 DWI arrests happened between April 9th and May 12th. He was processed and released each time because bail is not set for motor vehicles violations in NJ. He also retained his ability to drive because police do not have the authority to revoke someone's license. He has yet to appear before a judge for his DWI offenses. He was due in court to appear today for that first offense on April 9th but did not show up.

This evening, police in Vineland, NJ spotted a person driving without a seatbelt and pulled behind the vehicle to make a stop. The driver, Sotomayor, probably getting used to this drill, started throwing his alcoholic beverages from the vehicle before stopping. Officers immediately recognized him and found him to be intoxicated. They brought him back to the station where he refused a breathalyzer. Officers called the Superior Court Judge because Sotomayor was being arrested for DWI while being out on bail for drug charges related to a previous DWI in addition to the warrant for not appearing in court. The judge issued a 'no bail' warrant for Sotomayor to go to county jail until he goes to court.

It has taken until this sixth DWI arrest to finally get this man into a cell where he won't be a danger to society on the roads. It was obviously that Sotomayor had no plans of stopping his behavior and threats of arrest and/or jail were not deterrents. The system was following protocol for processing DUI cases according to their schedule, however, in these rare cases there needs to be a way to break that schedule and handle it differently. Sotomayor's case was blatant months ago. It really comes as no surprise that he was caught tonight with a DWI a 6th time.
