The Supreme Court ruled this morning that it is unconstitutional to sentence juveniles to life in prison without a chance of parole. The high court split 5-4 in it's decision that such life sentences for minors violate the Eighth Amendment's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. The decision takes into account scientific brain studies that say juveniles are more likely to commit crimes without thinking of the consequences, but are also more likely to respond to rehabilitation. Pennsylvania is most affected by this ruling, with up to 480 inmates serving life sentences for crimes committed as juveniles, which is the most in the country.

The 10 day Welcome America Festival kicks off today, with a screening of “The Great Gatsy” in Rittenhouse Square at 9 pm. There will be something happening everyday this week including more free movies Tuesday and Wednesday at the Piazza at Schmidt's and Art Museum respectively. Taste of Philadelphia begins on Friday at Penn's Landing through Sunday. Next week, Philly Pop's at Independence Hall July 3rd, and of course the big finale Concert on the Parkway on the 4th of July with fireworks. All the details at http://www.welcomeamerica.com/

A Pennsylvania State Trooper has been charged with DUI homicide in connection to a deadly crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Upper Dublin, Montgomery County, that killed a Philadelphia Woman. Barry Searfoss, was at a golf outing on May 18 in Bucks County. He had been drinking all day and started to drive home his truck around 10 pm to Coatesville, PA. He rear-ended 21-year-old Robin Williams' SUV which caught fire; she died at the scene. His BAC was 0.188% or twice the legal limit. This charge carries a minimum 3 year sentence. Searfoss has been suspended without pay. Ironically the golf outing was raising scholarship money in honor of a woman who was killed 15 years ago by a drunk driver.

Tonight, Clear skies and temperatures falling into the 60's this evening in Philadelphia.
