The former manager of a Delaware County nursing home pled no contest to endangering the lives of three residents who died from health complications suffered because of inadequate staffing levels. 40-year-old Chaim "Charlie" Steg of Lakewood, NJ was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. Steg was the regional operations director for St. Francis Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Darby. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office was called in to investigate in August 2017 after Mercy Catholic Medical Center's Mercy Fitzgerald Campus notified the Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging because they had concern's over the poor condition of several patients that had been transferred to Mercy from St. Francis.

The investigation revealed that Steg failed to maintain proper staff levels to care for residents. "Steg's employees repeatedly warned him that St. Francis' chronic staffing problems endangered the residents. He ignored their warnings and his reckless decision making caused these three Pennsylvanians serious bodily injury and ultimately led to their death," said Shapiro in a press release. The three residents that died suffered from massive colon infection and dehydration; severe dehydration and septic shock; and severe late-stage pressure wounds and a bacterial infection.

Sentencing will be in October. He will receive 6 to 23 months of house arrest, three years of probation, a $15,000 fine and restitution. He won't be allowed to oversee nursing, clinical, or medical services at a skilled nursing facility for five years.

There is a large police presence in Wilmington, DE, on Wednesday night, 6/2, after reports of multiple police officers shot. No word on their conditions. It is centered around 25th and Market Streets. Officers were responding to a call for service in that area around 9:30 p.m. when they were shot at from inside a nearby apartment building. Three officers were struck by gunfire. They were taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition. SWAT teams and police have surrounded the building. Officials advise residents to avoid the area. This is an ongoing situation.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man was beaten to death with a baseball bat on Wednesday evening, 6/2. It happened around 5:10 p.m. on the 900 block of West Tabor Road in Logan. Apparently the 32-year-old man was involved in a domestic argument with a relative when he was hit on the head. Police recovered the weapon and one person is in custody.

Sports
