Philadelphia Police are searching for two suspects wanted for vandalizing the Holocaust Memorial Plaza in Center City on Sunday, May 16. It happened just after 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of Benjamin Franklin Parkway. A white male and Black female were caught on surveillance video walking through the plaza. At one point they stopped and used a yellow paint pen to write graffiti. It is not clear what they wrote, but police do not believe it is anti-semitic. The first suspect is a Black female, heavy set, wearing a multicolor scarf, red shirt, multicolor pants and black sneakers. The second suspect is a white male, medium build, full beard, wearing a blue shirt, gray pants and black sneakers.

This unrelated incident occurred on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the Israel flag on May 15. It is unclear what these men were trying to accomplish (burn the flag? tear it down?), but it was not constructive.

Two children and their grandmother were rescued by firefighters from a row home fire early Wednesday morning, 5/26, in Bridesburg. It happened around 2 a.m. on the 2200 block of Kennedy Street. 56-year-old Maureen Davis was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. 13-year-old Amera Hamilton and her 10-year-old brother, Brian Harris Jr., were rescued from the second floor by ladder. They were taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital in stable condition and are being treated for smoke inhalation. The children's mother, Karrine Mahaffey, was not home at the time. She was at the police station filing a complaint on her abusive ex-boyfriend. Investigators believe the fire was intentially set. The boyfriend turned himself into police on Wednesday morning. No word on any charges. The investigation is ongoing.

A former Penn State University president will serve time behind bars in county jail for his role in the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Judge John Boccabella ordered Graham Spanier to report to Centre County Jail on July 9. He will serve at least 2 months in jail followed by 2 months of house arrest with electronic monitoring. He will also have two years of probation, a $7,500 fine, and 200 hours of community service. Spanier was first charged in November 2011 and lost his job days later. He was convicted by a jury in March 2017 on a single misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of children. Spanier knew of allegations of Sandusky's misconduct and did not report it to police.
