Clementon Park Bought, Will Reopen; Two Escape Croydon Fire; Driver Crashes into Store, Dies

Clementon Park and Splash World in Camden County, New Jersey, has been sold at auction as an entire property and the new owners plan to reopen the amusement park. According to Capitol Recovery Group (CRG), which arranged the sale, the whole property sold for $2.3 million at an online auction on Wednesday, 3/24. "The buyer is Clementon Park Holdings LLC, a division of Indiana Beach Amusement and Water Park, and they have indicated they plan to re-open later this year," according to CRG President Bill Firestone. The auction started with bids for the property as a whole. Then individual pieces of the property were put on sale, such as the amusement rides, water slides, park benches, liquor license, etc. Since the top bids for all the individual items did not add up to more than the single bid for the entire property, the initial bid for the property won it all. Clementon Park has been closed since 2019.

Two people were able to escape out of the second level of a burning home in Bucks County early Thursday morning, 3/25, that has been ruled arson. It happened just before 1 a.m. on the 800 block of Main Avenue in the Croydon section of Bristol Borough. Investigators say the fire in the three-unit home was intentionally set. Firefighters rescued a woman who climbed out a second story window onto a first-story roof. A man in his 50s jumped to safety from a second story balcony. He was taken to Frankford Torresdale hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and injuries from the fall. A cat was also rescued. There were no working smoke alarms in any of the units. The cause of the fire in under investigation.

A motorist was killed after crashing into a storefront in Philadelphia's Parkside neighborhood around midnight Thursday, 3/25. It happened on the 4700 block of West Girard Avenue. The driver of a red Chevy Impala was traveling at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a Family Dollar store. He was pulled from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital. He later died from his injuries. The driver has been identified as 36-year-old Lonnie D. Johnson. No other vehicles were involved. It is not clear what caused him to lose control.
