North Philly Fatal Hit-and-Run of Deaf Man; Twin Brothers Surrender; Shots at Delco Cemetery

Philadelphia Police have released surveillance footage of a vehicle wanted in a deadly hit-and-run accident that killed a 60-year-old deaf and non-verbal man that was well known and liked in his North Philadelphia neighborhood. Roberto Oquendo Velez was struck and killed while crossing the street around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, 3/3, on the 3300 block of North 2nd Street. He was hit by a blue-colored 2001 to 2004 GMC Yukon or Denali heading southbound. Velez was struck so hard he was knocked out of his shoes and then dragged 300 feet. "We're getting information that the driver of the striking vehicle may have exited the vehicle, walked up, looked at the body and then got back into the vehicle and continued southbound on 2nd Street," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. Twin brothers from Delaware County surrendered to police on Thursday, 3/4, in connection to an attack at Mama Venezia's Pizzeria in Norristown last month. 19-year-old brothers Justin and Kevin Cassidy are charged with robbery and aggravated assault. Justin Croson is also implicated in the attack and is still at large. It happened on February 19th on the 600 block of East Marshall Street. The three men stole a 12-pack and a 6-pack of beer from the pizzeria. 56-year-old Ying Ngov, shop owner, chased after them outside for payment. They violently pushed her down and attacked her while she was on the ground. The brothers have been remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $40,000 bail.

Two people were injured after shots rang out during a burial ceremony at a cemetery in Upper Darby, Delaware County, on Thursday, 3/4. It happened just before 12 noon on the 200 block of Powell Lane at the Friends Cemetery. Two gunman opened fire into a group of mourners, striking and injuring two people. The burial ceremony was for a shooting victim who was recently shot and killed in Philadelphia. Police believe that today's gunfire could be retaliatory. They are looking into surveillance video from the cemetary to help identify the suspects.
