A Philadelphia jury found 22-year-old Michael White not guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of 37-year-old Sean Schellenger. He was found guilty of tampering with evidence and was acquitted of weapons and obstruction charges. White's mother, Juanita White, said that she was "thankful" and "happy." She also said that she was praying for the victim's family. Schellenger's mother, Linda Schellenger, was outspoken and critical of District Attorney Larry Krasner and his handling of the case. White is due back in court on December 6th for sentencing on the tampering with evidence conviction.

Two brothers have been arrested for the arson of their Old City business in 2018 that destroyed multiple buildings and displaced several businesses and many residents along the 200 block of Chestnut Street. Imad and Bahaa Dawara were arrested on Wednesday at the Philadelphia International Airport. They are charged with arson as well as wire and mail fraud. It happened in the early morning hours of February 18, 2018. "The fire was intentionally started with a gasoline accelerant in the basement of 239 Chestnut Street," said William McSwain, the U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Two five story buildings were destroyed and neighboring buildings damaged. 160 people were displaced and many businesses were affected. Chestnut Street was closed for months as demolition was underway hurting other businesses down the block. On February 2nd, the landlord asked the brothers to vacate the building because they were $64,000 behind in rent. They then went and took out a $750,000 insurance policy. They are accused of setting the fire to cash in on that policy. The face 17-20 years in prison if found guilty on all 10 counts of the indictment.

A 17-year-old is being charged as an adult for a shooting outside of a high school football game last month in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia. Steven Charles of Darby is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, being a convict in possession of a gun and related charges. It happened on September 20th outside the Marcus Foster Memorial Stadium during a football game between Simon Gratz High School and Imhotep Institute Charter High School. The game was in the second quarter. The victims were waiting in line to get in to the game when gunshots rang out. A 14-year-old was shot in the foot and a 15-year-old was hit in the leg. The sound of the shots outside caused everyone inside to panic and run. Police did not offer a motive in the shooting.
