Principal FaceTimes Bus Students to Read Books; Search in NE Abduction/Robbery; Wildwood Enters Plea

Thursday's evening commute was horrible for everyone in the Philadelphia area. The extended timing of the first snow of the season combined with all the vehicles on the roads created gridlock everywhere. Plow crews were unable to make a pass on many roads due to the traffic. In Huntingdon Valley, buses from Lower Moreland School District were stuck out on the roads trying to take kids home. Dr. Brian Swank, principal of K-5 Pine Road Elementary, received a call from the parent of a 5th grader who said that the younger kids on the bus were anxious about being stuck. Dr. Swank then called the 5th grader on the bus using FaceTime. He was able to reassure all the students and read two books aloud to them to pass the time. Eventually they all made it home safe.

Philadelphia Police are searching for two suspects who abducted, bound, and robbed a man in Northeast Philadelphia back in September. It happened around 7:30 a.m. on September 14 on the 6700 block of Ditman Street in the Tacony section. The 21-year-old man was outside of his home when the male and female suspects forced him into a car at gun point. They covered his head and bound his hands. The pair searched his backpack and took his wallet containing $200. They then drove to the Wawa on the 7700 block of Frankford Avenue. The suspects forced the victim to give them his PIN. They took $500 from the ATM using his debit card. He was eventually dropped off at Hartel and Torresdale Avenues. They face charges of kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault, and theft.

A woman charged after a confrontation with police officers on the beach in Wildwood over Memorial Day Weekend formally entered a plea of not guilty. Emily Weinman appeared in Cape May County court Friday morning, 11/16. She faces charges of aggravated assault and other charges. The end of the confrontation was caught on viral video by another beachgoer that showed a police officer punching her in the head during a scuffle on the sand. The longer police cam video released later showed the entire incident. Police questioned Weinman about alcohol on the beach and asked for ID. She refused to give her name or ID and backed away from the officers. Weiman is accused of shoving, kicking, and spitting on the police. Another hearing is scheduled for January 25th.
