Martina White Sworn In, Kensington Hit And Run, Southwest Philly Hit And Run

Philadelphia's newest state representative - who becomes the second of only two Republicans to represent the city in the state House - took the oath of office Monday. Republican Martina White was sworn in as the newest member, having won a special election for the Northeast Philadelphia seat formerly held by Democrat Brendan Boyle, who was elected to Congress. White's win gives the GOP a 120 to 83 edge in the state House.

Police say a woman and a child are hospitalized after a hit-and-run in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood at about 7:02 p.m. Monday. A 19-year-old mother and her two-year-old son were crossing the 2700 block of Mascher Street and the mother was holding her son in a car seat when they both were hit. The woman and child were taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition.

UPDATE: There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who fled the scene. They are looking for a late model white 4-door Nissan/Acura sedan.

Police say a child has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Southwest Philadelphia at about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the 1600 block of S. 57th Street. The four-year-old boy was taken to Childrenâ€™s Hospital of Philadelphia where he was pronounced dead. Police say the vehicle, described as a black SUV, fled northbound on 57th Street.

UPDATE: There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who fled the scene. They are looking for a 2011-2014 black Ford Edge SUV with an all-chrome smooth front and a 1-inch chrome trim strip.

UPDATE 11:30 pm: Philadelphia Police have recovered the SUV believed to be involved in the hit-and-run the struck and killed a 4-year-old boy in Kingsessing. The driver has been in contact with the DA's office and is expected to turn herself in to authorities.
