Schuylkill Stabber Caught in VA; Man Steals Police Bike (Video); Philly Cabbie Gets Big Tip

A man accused of stabbing three men and dumping their bodies in the Schuylkill River last summer was caught today in Virginia. 43-year-old Tam Minh Le was captured by U.S. Marshals without incident at a motel in Ashland, Virginia. Authorities say that Le and members of a Vietnamese gang held two brothers hostage for gambling away money which was supposed to be used to buy drugs. When a third man couldn't bring enough cash to cover the debt, all three were beaten and stabbed in Le's Southwest Philadelphia home. The three were then bound and the two brothers' legs were weighted down with cement before Le threw them all into the river. The third man, who wasn't weighted down, survived and crawled out of the river when his attackers left. Police found him wandering down Kelly Drive. Le awaits an extradition hearing.

Philadelphia Police are looking for a suspect who was caught on surveillance video (see below) stealing a police bike last week in Center City. It happened at 1:10 pm on Friday, January 9th in the lobby of the building at 21 South 12th Street in Center City. The police officer had responded to a call on the fourth floor of the building, leaving his police issue black Trek bicycle in the lobby. The video shows the suspect exit the elevator, take a look around, and then wheel the bicycle right outside. He was last seen heading south on 12th Street towards Chestnut Street. The suspect is described as a black male, 50-60 years old, 5' 10â€ - 6' 1â€, 175 lbs. with a thin to medium build and full gray beard. He was wearing a a black ski hat, tan jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and tan boots. The bike has â€œPoliceâ€ written in white on the frame and on the rear cargo bag with a CPR mask, pepper spray and other police equipment. One lucky Philadelphia cab driver received a generous tip over the holidays for a ride that was a little over a minute long. On December 13th at about 1:15 a.m., cabbie Oumar Maiga picked up a passenger at 2nd and Market Streets in Old City. The man asked to be dropped off at Columbus Boulevard near Race Street, under a mile away. After the short ride, with time only to exchange holiday pleasantries, they arrived at the destination. The fare was just $4.31 but the man added a $989.98 tip to the credit card transaction. Including the $.75 tax the total came to $995.04. (see receipt below) The man assured Maiga that he was serious. Just to be sure, Everett M. Abitbol, cofounder of Freedom Taxi, waited 30 days for the charge to clear with the credit card company. Abitbol says it couldn't have happened to a better guy. Maiga works very hard for his family here and back home in West Africa. The mystery passenger still remains unnamed.
