Shane Montgomery's Keys Found in River; BlackOut Philly March; Vine Street Rehab

Detectives and family members say the keys of missing student Shane Montgomery were discovered Sunday in the Schuylkill River. The discovery was made just after 10 a.m. by a New Jersey dive team helping in the search. The keys were found not far from a parking lot and bridge over the canal, where Shane was last seen on surveillance. Shane went missing early Thanksgiving morning after going out with friends the night before to celebrate his 21st birthday. Investigators now have enough evidence to prove that Montgomery was on the water's edge before he disappeared.

Demonstrators with the group BlackOut Philly marched through Center City last night in another show of protest over what they perceive to be police brutality and racial tension across the country. The march of several hundred participants began at 15th and Arch Streets chanting for â€œJustice.â€ Organizers said they are concerned about killings of unarmed black men at the hands of white police officers, including teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner, who died in a choke hold in a police altercation in Staten Island, N.Y.

A five-year, $82 million project to replace seven bridges over the Vine Street Expressway will soon be underway. In time to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 2017 of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and its museums, institutes, sculptures, and pocket parks, the rehab will aim to make the strip more attractive and functional. To be upgraded: the pedestrian crossing between the Free Library and the Franklin Institute, Winter Street, a new patch of park will cover a piece of I-676 in front of the library, More than 10,000 shrubs and trees will be planted, sidewalks will replace dirt along Vine Street, More than 16,000 granite and brick pavers and 31 park benches will be added. The massive project will be done in two stages, with all construction to be complete by Nov. 7, 2019.
