A Philadelphia firefighter died this morning while fighting a fire in the city's West Oak Lane section. 36-year-old Philadelphia firefighter Joyce Craig-Lewis was a decorated 11-year veteran and the first female firefighter killed in the line of duty in the long history of the Philadelphia Fire Department (est. 1871 org. 1736). The fire was reported around 2:49 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Middleton Street. Lewis was part of the initial group that went in to control the fire in the basement. After a withdraw was ordered firefighters discovered Lewis was missing and went back in to find her trapped in the basement. She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Lewis was married and leaves behind a teenage son and 16-month-old daughter. The last firefighter to die in the line of duty was Capt. Michael Goodwin on April 6, 2013. There are currently 150 female firefighters in the department.

The reward for information in the disappearance of missing college student Shane Montgomery has risen to $65,000 (previously $50,000). Shane's family says the additional money has come from private donations. It has been almost two weeks since the Roxborough native has gone missing. Montgomery was last seen leaving Kildare's Irish Pub on Main Street in Manayunk early on Thanksgiving morning around 1:45 a.m. after a night out with friends on Thanksgiving Eve. The West Chester University student was back home for the holiday. Staff at the bar saw him turn left out the door and head south down Main Street. Shane is 5'11" tall, weighs 140 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities at 215-686-3353/3354.

A Delaware County judge in a non-jury trial has found a Nether Providence woman guilty but mentally ill of stabbing her husband to death. Common Pleas Judge Kevin Kelly found 54-year-old Maria Reyes Garcia-Pellon guilty but mentally ill of voluntary manslaughter of the Feb. 11, 2013 stabbing of her husband of 25 years. Garcia-Pellon stabbed Matthew White in the early morning hours as he lay sleeping in their home. White was the starting center on the 1979 University of Pennsylvania team that reached the NCAA Final Four and was an NBA draft pick. The couple met in Spain where White was playing professional ball. Garcia-Pellon had a history of mental illness and suffered from delusions and schizo-affective disorder. Concerned about her behavior, White brought her to Riddle the day before he was killed. She was discharged with a follow-up scheduled with a psychiatrist.

Tonight,
Cloudy with some showers, temperatures around 40 this evening in Center City.
