Early Saturday morning, organizers of the Phoenixville Firebird Festival got word that the festival's centerpiece, a 30-foot high wooden Phoenix, had been set on fire by vandals. Police say that the arson occurred at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, about 12 hours before the actual festival was scheduled to happen. The Phoenixville Firebird Festival is held each year on Friendship Field at Fillmore Street and Franklin Avenue just outside downtown Phoenixville. It takes months of planning and building by a dedicated group of volunteers to erect each year's Phoenix sculpture and is supported by donations from the community. Now, the festival features music, crafts, food, fire dancers, a procession, drummers, and yes, the Phoenix is ultimately set on fire, but usually in front of 1000's of people not the middle of the night. It would take a lot to keep this festival down, remember it is a phoenix, so it does rise from the asses. Organizers and townspeople rallied on Saturday to find enough wood to put together a new bonfire and the 11th annual festival went off on Saturday evening. Police do not have any suspects, but they are investigating.
Last year's festival was held in a driving snow storm. Take a look at the photos and video.

The reward for missing college student Shane Montgomery has increased to $50,000. Montgomery was last seen after leaving Kildare's Irish Pub in Manayunk early Thanksgiving morning after being out with his friends the night before. Hundreds of volunteers have searched the areas up and down Main Street where he was last seen and Police marine units have searched the canal. The FBI has put Shane's image and information on digital billboards across the area. Police are going over surveillance footage from businesses in Manayunk trying to figure out where Shane went. Last night, volunteers went to happy hours throughout the city where college kids hang out to pass out information. They went to South Street, Center City, near college campuses etc. They are also asking anyone who was at Kildare's on Thanksgiving Eve to look at their pictures to see if they see Shane in the background. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities at 215-686-3353/3354.
The Philadelphia Parking Authority has announced that it will have relaxed parking enforcement on Sunday, December 7th only, due to problems with wireless transmission of credit card payments at kiosks. PPA Executive Director Vince Fenerty said, “any citizen who received a parking violation on Friday or Saturday due to the credit card malfunction may bring this to the attention of our customer service department at sruiz@philapark.org.†Safety violations and single space meters will still be enforced because neither is affected by credit cards. The PPA is working to resolve this issue and hopes to have it fixed quickly. They will keep you up-to-date on their social media and website. If it is not fixed by Monday Fenerty says, “be prepared to pay cash on Monday if the problem persists.â€
