Three Charges Against Gosnell Dropped; Missing Boat New Jersey; AP Twitter Hacked, Dow Jones Reacts

Three of the eight murder charges against Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell were thrown out by Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Minehart today. After five weeks of prosecution testimony, Defense attorney Jack McMahon argued that there was no evidence that any of the babies were born alive, breathing and moving. Prosecutor Edward Cameron pointed to testimony of staffers who witnessed a breath, movement, and sound in each case. The judge found enough evidence in some but not all cases and dismissed three of those charges. Gosnell is still charged with four counts of first-degree murder on born/viable babies and one count of third-degree murder in the 2009 death of woman undergoing procedures at his clinic.

The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater near Great Egg Harbor, NJ. This morning at around 7:45 a.m. the 45-foot Sea Tow boat Cape Hatteras left Absecon headed toward Great Egg Harbor. The Coast Guard received a Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) activation alert at 10:45 a.m. The crew member on board the Hatteras did not respond to radio or cell phone calls. Helicopter and motor boat search teams were dispatched from the Atlantic City Coast Guard within minutes but there was no sign of the boat. The Cape Hatteras has survival equipment aboard, including two survival suits and two life rafts. The search will continue into the night for the crew member.

This afternoon the Twitter account of the Associated Press was hacked, sending out an erroneous report of an attack on the White House. The message read, “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is Injured.” The AP has 1.9 million followers who received the message. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 140 points in response to the news. The AP quickly suspended it's account and sent out a correction. The DOW also rebounded, finishing up 152.29 on the day.

Tonight
Partly Cloudy, Temperatures around 50 in Philadelphia.
