South Street Pizza Shop, Lorenzos, on Fire; Firefighter injured.

Philadelphia firefighters have been fighting a blaze at the popular late night pizza shop Lorenzo's on South Street since this morning. Emergency crews were called at 10:26 a.m. to 305 South Street. Flames were already making their way through the building's first floor pizza store and second and third floor apartments.

A firefighter was treated and released at Hahnemann Hospital after injuring he knee.

The building's layout made it hard to fight the fire, with no rear access and signage up the front with no windows. It took over and hour and half to control the flames. The fire marshal is investigating. There is not word yet as to what may have caused it, but workers initially saw smoke coming from an exhaust pipe near the oven (which was not in use at that time).

All three floors of the building sustained damage.

Many in the city know Lorenzo's for it's long lines late at night, no frills menu, gigantic slices, and savory staff. Where am I going to get something to eat now after a night at the TLA?

UPDATE: The fire marshal is still investigating, but the building did sustain extensive damage to all three floors. Owner Giuseppe "Joe" Pulizzi is distraught, but vows they will rebuild as soon as possible. His father is Lorenzo who started the business in 1988 and whose portrait graced the front of the building, but had to be cut to vent the building by fire fighters.
