A corporate sponsor! Bike polo is that big. There's a Twitter account that announces pickup game times and locations as well as a Google group for people to chat about things... Read More |

Are you free this summer? Wildwood beaches are. Next year may be a different story.
Wildwood's mayor, Ernie Troiano Jr. thinks that due to the rising cost of cleaning up after the pigs who leave so much trash on Wildwood's beaches, it is inevitable the last free beaches on the Jersey shore will have to start charging.
Keeping the beaches clean costs the city about $1.5 million per year, Troiano said. Crews are on the beach before sunrise to rake through the sand.... Read More |

PHA May Pay $1MM to HUD |
|

If the Philadelphia Housing Authority can't do a better job explaining the $1 million it spent on legal fees, the PHA will have to reimburse the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The local agency claimed $1 million in legal expenses including more than $150,000 as a retainer for former City Controller Jonathan Saidel. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides most of PHA's budget, is seeking the money because the local agency has "failed to provide... Read More |

Hot and humid weather's keeping the city swimming pools busy. Overcrowding is now the problem. At Hunting Park Pool, only 240 people can swim at a time... 30 swimmers for each of eight lifeguards.
The staff has them swimming in shifts. They let people swim for 30 minutes, blow a whistle, tell them to get out of the pool, and let the next group in.
Philadelphia police are detailed to 47 pools daily to help staffers deal with uncooperative teenagers and other... Read More |

Body scanner upgrades are coming to Philadelphia International Airport. The scanners will stop using passenger-specific images in coming months.
The new software will show a generic outline of a person, not a specific image of an actual passenger.
Passengers will be able to view the same outline that the TSA officer sees, and a TSA officer will no longer be required to view the image remotely.
If a scanner detects a potential threat, additional... Read More |
