Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says he's concerned about a recent surge in fatal traffic accidents.
He says cell phones are a big part of the problem. AAA reports that 21 percent of drivers have admitted text messaging while driving.
Through the first six weeks of this year there have been 17 traffic related deaths... double the number of vehicle fatalities this year versus this same period last year.

A security "fast lane" for travelers is coming to Philadelphia International Airport.
The TSA's Pre-Check program is designed to move passengers deemed "low risk" through a designated security line.
But it's only for those frequent fliers who pre-register, volunteering personal information so the government can pre-screen them for security.
The program may be in Philadelphia by the end of the year.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is concerned about certain aspects of the budget unveiled by Governor Tom Corbett this week.
Nutter feels mental health services, support for homelessness prevention, and public education may bear the brunt.
Governor Corbett, in his budget address, said reductions to the Department of Public Welfare were meant to — as he put it — "right-size" the state’s public welfare system.

Valley Forge Casino Resort Awarded License for Table Games |

The Gaming Control Board of Pennsylvania has awarded the Valley Forge Casino Resort a license for table games. The casino is still under construction and is expected to open this spring. It currently had a license to operate 600 slot machines, but now can make room for 50 table games, 23 of which can be blackjack.

Villanova University has launched a $200-million-plus building project that will transform two parking lots on Lancaster Avenue into a Gothic "gateway" to campus and include two residence halls, a parking garage, and a performing-arts center.

Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital in Malvern is spending $1-million on an expansion program and one part of that is more space and new facilities for its outpatient center for brain injuries and other neurological disorders.
In the past year, the number of patients suffering post concussion symptoms has increased 35 percent, with ages ranging from people as young as 11 and up to their 70’s.

A once-powerful Pennsylvania House speaker was found guilty this week of corruption and related charges.
William DeWeese was Democratic leader of the state House when he was accused of using public resources, mainly staff, for campaign purposes. He is still a sitting member of the House.
DeWeese’s lawyer vowed to appeal the verdict, and DeWeese said he would seek re-election. He would be required to give up his House seat upon sentencing.
