Governor Christie toured the New Jersey coastline by helicopter yesterday and said he never imagined he would see such devastation. Christie was emotional thinking about how much of his life was spent at the Jersey shore. Today, President Obama visits and Christie will ask for immediate help from the Army Corps of Engineers to begin rebuilding the beaches washed away by Hurricane Sandy, leaving towns with no protection.

Now that the brunt of Sandy has passed, crews from Peco and the Philadelphia Streets Department are out trying to restore power and remove downed trees. Mayor Nutter said 340 trees were reported as coming down and Philadelphia fire and EMS personnel responded to 1,300 incidents Monday night alone. Government offices will be open today along with Philadelphia public, Catholic, and charter schools; students using yellow buses should expect delays. Superstorm-Hurricane Sandy has passed through the entire region leaving behind a path of destruction from the Jersey shore through the Philadelphia area. The storm itself is still lingering as a Nor'Easter, slowly moving north into New England. Frankenstorm lived up to its name. The hybrid storm delivered everything. The photos and videos that are now circulating showing the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy are heartbreaking. Boats piled by the side of the road, houses in the middle of the road, trees inside of houses. New Jersey Governor Christie calls the devastation at the Jersey Shore "Unthinkable" and beyond anything he thought he would ever see. The loss to homes and personal property will be measured in billions of dollars.

The devastation of Hurricane Sandy is being assessed today. At the Jersey shore, homes were moved off their foundations. Several came to rest in the middle of Route 35 outside of Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights. Atlantic City took a tremendous hit, losing much of the boardwalk, which the ocean sent crashing through homes and businesses. Hurricane Sandy Affects SEPTA, Philadelphia Bridges and Interstates Reopen,

Major highways in and around Philadelphia are open again after Hurricane Sandy began moving out of the area. Motorists are allowed back on Interstates 95 and 676 as well as the entirety of I-476 and I-76. Speed and vehicle restrictions remain in effect on interstates in central Pennsylvania. The Walt Whitman, Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry—also reopened Tuesday.

Hurricane Sandy has now made landfall near Atlantic City in South Jersey. It is currently moving slowly across Southern New Jersey and will move up into Central Pennsylvania over the next day. Sandy has now become a post-tropical cyclone, it is no longer a hurricane by definition. However, don't be fooled, it still is packing winds of 85 mph at its center. Some are now calling it Superstorm Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy is still a Category 1 Hurricane but is strengthening on Monday off the coast about 60 miles from New Jersey. The latest update has it's maximum sustained winds at 90 mph. It has made it's westerly left hook and it heading back towards the coast. Currently the forecast track has it making landfall somewhere near Atlantic City and Cape May around 6pm.
