Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers says he is stunned that the $60 billion Sandy aid bill wasn't put up for a vote in the House of Representatives. He says fees brought in by tourism cover at least 70 percent of the borough's $12 million budget. Federal funds would help some displaced homeowners and help businesses build back inventory. Even though the boardwalk will be done in phases, he has stipulated in the contracts that it should be completed by May 10th in order to be up and running well... Read More

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said last night's Congressional hearing was "disgusting to watch." That's because the $60 billion in disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy got put on hold in favor of the 11 hour debate about the "fiscal cliff." Late this afternoon word came that Speaker John Boehner scheduled a vote on $9 billion in flood insurance for Friday and the remainder by the 15th.

Congress has started its climb back up the "fiscal cliff." After House Republicans relented to the Senate's plan, the House Tuesday night passed the bill 257-167 with GOP and Democratic support to avoid a fiscal cliff. President Obama thanked all parties involved in the negotiations. The bill, he said raises taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans while preventing a middle class tax hike that could have sent the economy back into a recession.
