Jury selection began today in the murder trial against West Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell is charged with seven counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of seven infants who were born alive and viable during illegal late term abortion procedures at his Women's Medical Society practice at 3801 Lancaster Ave. He is accused of snipping the babies spines to kill them. This morning, a tractor trailer carrying bundles of mail lost a load of letters, bills and parcels when the back doors somehow opened dumping the mail on Route 611 near Street Road in Warrington, Bucks County. Thousands of pieces of mail closed one of the northbound lanes while workers attempted to retrieve every last piece – even the junk mail.

A one-alarm fire broke out late Sunday night at a three story apartment building in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Firefighters were able to control the blaze around midnight. Four people were taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

Sunday night around 6:50 about 1,993 PECO customers lost power in West Philadelphia. The outage affected customers who live near West Girard and Belmont Avenue when a downed wire caused an equipment failure. Crews responded and restored power to most customers by 8pm.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority and San Fransisco-based Sidecar have come to a compromise that will allow the ride-sharing company to continue to operate in the city. Simply, Sidecar cannot accept any compensation for rides. "I can confirm that rides are free in Philly this weekend," Sidecar spokeswoman Margaret Ryan said. An apartment fire this morning in Lansdowne has left one woman dead and 30 residents displaced. The fire alarms went off at around 5 am when a fire broke out in a third floor apartment in the building at 32 Wycombe Avenue in Lansdowne.
