Former Pennsylvania Governor and former Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell was at the Community College of Philadelphia Monday night to kick off the school's 15th annual Law and Society Week with a question and answer session with a couple dozen students, faculty members, and others. Law and Society Week covers a wide variety of topics such as the death penalty and cyber security, and will feature a number of guests at different events held at the school this week.

The Temple University Board of Trustees voted today to reinstate the men's and women's crew team following a recommendation from the university president, Neil Theobald. He also is seeking a comittment from the City of Philadelphia to help with renovations on Temple's boathouse along Boathouse Row. A popular amusement park in Sea Isle City is shutting down. Gillian's Funland was severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy and the owner has decided to close it for good. After putting $2.5 million into Gillian's Funland in 2009, owners spent hundreds of thousands to partially open last year after Sandy. Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City will remain open.

A north Jersey man convicted in the repeated sexual assaults of a young girl has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Jose Rene Cruz of Irvington must serve nearly 13 years before he becomes eligible for parole. He also will have to register as a sex offender and is barred from having any contact with the girl. Cruz was arrested in March 2012 and was convicted last August.

Philadelphia police are investing after two people were found shot inside a home in North Philadelphia on Saturday. They responded to a report of shooting at 2624 West Somerset Street around 2:30 in the afternoon. A 40-year-old man was found shot in the head and a 30-year-old woman was found shot in the chest. Penn State's annual 46-hour dance marathon simply known as THON will be rocking the Bryce Joyner Center in State College all weekend long. Around 700 Penn State students are official "dancers" that will be on the floor without a break for the entire event. There are 1000's more who lend direct support and those who will simply stop by the stands to join in the fun.
