Yesterday, an SUV driver and six people on a packed commuter train that crashed into it at a rail crossing in New York have died. The Jeep Cherokee was sitting in traffic at the railroad crossing when the gate came down on the back of the SUV. The woman got out of the vehicle, tried to lift the gate, then got back in the car and accelerated directly into the path of the train. She was killed and the train burst into flames killing 6 on board.

Fire fighters made dozens of rescues from windows and fire escapes while evacuating a burning apartment building in Montgomery County early Wednesday morning. The fire started shortly before 1am at the 600 block of Swede Street in Norristown. It quickly grew to four alarms. One person has died. Three people were injured in the fire, including a firefighter who suffered a cut to the hand while searching the burning building.

Authorities in Montgomery County have released surveillance footage of a man they are calling a 'person of interest' in last week's bomb threat of the county courthouse. Last Thursday around 8:30 a.m. a caller told Norristown police that there were bombs and explosives in the courthouse. A second similar call from a cell phone was placed just minutes later. The Philadelphia Art Museum has announced it has received five major French paintings as a bequest from long time supporter Helen Tyson Madeira who died last year. The Cezanne, Manet, Pissarro and others are already on display in the galleries at the Art Museum. The new paintings join the collection donated by Madeira’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Carroll S. Tyson, Jr. five decades ago.

For the third time since 2011, a city council committee will debate a plan that would force local businesses to offer all workers paid sick leave and Mayor Nutter seems to be on board. Before Council's Public Health Committee is a measure that would require local businesses to offer one hour of sick leave for every forty hours an employee works. A Philadelphia Police officer is facing charges after he used a fake name and birthday when attempting to surrender three handguns at a police station. 28-year-old Sgt. Brandon Ruff went to the 35th Police District headquarters on August 3rd, 2014 in civilian clothes and carrying a bag containing three handguns. SEPTA police are investigating an attack on a city trolley that was caught on video and posted on social media. It happened on the Route 10 trolley at 11:23 pm Saturday night on its way westward into West Philadelphia. The video shows a group of young people, male and female, involved in an assault. A 2-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she fell from a second story window at her home in North Philadelphia. It happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday at a home along the 2100 block of Gratz Street. Police say the girl was conscious and talking after the fall. A man has been charged in the murder of a North Philadelphia woman, shot execution style while waiting for the SEPTA bus in the morning on her the way to work. 36-year-old Randolph Sanders is accused of killing 56-year-old Kim Jones.
