Kutztown University has pulled back a plan to bar students from displaying what it called "distasteful" and "demeaning" symbols such as the Confederate flag and swastikas in residence halls and common areas. Kutztown University lawyers asked officials to hold off because of concerns about its constitutionality. Instead, officials vowed to "educate" students and others about "the historical and modern context for these symbols."

Authorities say a man was seriously injured after being shot and then crashing his SUV in North Philadelphia. It happened around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Pike Street in the Hunting Park section of the city. Police say a 47-year-old man was shot multiple times near Greene and Manheim Streets, then drove several miles before he crashed his Chevy Blazer into the front of a parked tractor-trailer. Kathryn Knott took the stand in her own defense this morning. She is accused of yelling homophobic slurs and punching one of the victims during a fight last year. She testified that after having dinner at a Center City restaurant with a group of friends they began to walk north on 16th Street. This morning the City of Los Angeles canceled school for the day after a credible bomb threat was called in to a School District Board member regarding several of the schools in the district. No individual school was specified. The Superintendent of schools took the action to close all schools while bomb squads scour each school while hundreds of thousands of students stay home.

One teen is dead and another was seriously wounded in a shooting in West Philadelphia.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Creighton Street, near Wyaluising Avenue.
