Firefighters responded to a call of a fire in a trash chute high up in a 19-story residential high rise in West Philadelphia around 9:30 p.m.on Thursday night, 7/18. When they arrived, a man was scaling down the outside of the building, though it is unclear why he chose that way to escape the fire. He did make it down safely. Four residents and three officers were treated for smoke inhalation.

Hahnemann University Hospital has announced a timeline of dates for the closure of departments and facilities with the final date set as September 6th. The schedule has to be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Philadelphia Health Commissioner's Office.
