A teenager is now in police custody following a shooting on a SEPTA subway platform in Center City on Thursday, 7/14. The 14-year-old boy surrendered with his mother around 8 a.m. on Friday morning, 7/15. It happened around 12:25 p.m. Thursday at the 15th Street Station across from City Hall. The 19-year-old victim was on the platfrom when the 14-year-old suspect and another teen got off a train. They exchanged words. The suspect pulled a gun and fired. The victim was hit three times and is currently in critical condition at Jefferson Hospital. He may also have had a gun. The other teen was questioned and released. Police have reviewed video surveillance of the incident. Police have not yet recovered the weapon.

Starbucks is closing its store in Center City Philadelphia at 10th and Chestnut citing repeated safety issues. The coffee chain is also closing 15 other stores including six in Seattle, six in Los Angeles, two in Portland, and one in Washington. They will transfer employees to other locations. Starbucks cited incidents related to drug use as one of the reasons for closing. Following an incident in 2018 at the Rittenhouse Square location where two Black men were arrested while waiting for a business associate, Starbucks held racial-bias training for all of it's U.S. stores. It also made cafe seating and restrooms open to the public. Now, the chain is giving local management the authority to close bathrooms again.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced that the state budget for 2022-23 includes funding for 3 new state parks. The location for the parks have not yet been chosen. The budget for new parks is $56 million. Currently, Pennsylvania has 121 state parks. One park will be developed for the use of all-terrain and off-road vehicles. These three will be the first new state parks since 2005. It will also be the first park dedicated to ATVs.
