The Pennsylvania secretary of state has ordered an automatic recount in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Dave McCormick trails Dr. Mehmet Oz by only 902 votes. That is less than .1% of the total votes cast. Pennsylvania law calls for an automatic recount if the difference between candidates is less than .5%. The state's 67 counties will conduct the recount between May 27 and June 7. All results must been reported by June 8 at 12 p.m. "This automatic recount is intended to ensure that the count is accurate and that there is confidences in the results and outcome," Pennsylvania Secretary of State Leigh Chapman said. "I thank everyone for their patience as we count every vote."

An off-duty police officer was killed in a motorcycle accident in South Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, 5/24. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of South Broad Street near the Novacare Complex. 27-year-old Thomas Munz Jr. was riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when he collided with a Chevy Equinox. Munz was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevy SUV stopped at the scene. Officer Munz has been with the 18th District for four years. On October 26, 2020, he was one of two officers that responded to a home in West Philadelphia. They encountered Walter Wallace Jr. having a mental breakdown and brandishing a knife. Munz and the other officer shot and killed Wallace Jr. when he approached the two officers with the knife. They were not equipped with Tasers. The incident set off violent riots across the city. The officers were not charged, however, the DA is still investigating.

A man was shot and killed while walking his dog late Tuesday night, 5/24, in Kensington. It happened around 11:30 p.m. on the 3500 block of Frankford Avenue near East Atlantic Street. Police responded to the scene and found 23-year-old Markeem McLeod of Tioga-Nicetown unresponsive on the sidewalk. He was still holding on to his dog's leash. Police say that two suspects approached McLeod and fired 36 shots. They fled in a red car. McLeod was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died.
