Penn State Landmark Vandalism; Philly/Delco High Speed Chase; Girls Lied About Abduction

Authorities in State College are investigating after several landmarks at Penn State University were vandalized over the weekend while graduation ceremonies were taking place. The Nittany Lion Shrine, Old Main, and Hintz Family Alumni Center were marred with red paint between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The Lion statue, a popular spot for graduation photos, had one of its ears broken off and painted red so it looked like blood. It was fenced off while police investigated. Old Main had large red words "TIME IS UP" painted on the front door and blue words that read "DEATH BY COP," "DEATH BY HAZING," "DEATH BY SUICIDE," and "DEATH BY PSU CULTURE" painted on the other entrances. The Hintz Family Alumni Center had the letters "FTG," which stand for 'For The Glory (of Old Main),' painted in red on the entrance. There was also a note reading, "Should have listened when you had the chance" signed by "ADG." The buildings were cleaned up on Sunday, no word on when the statue will be repaired.

A suspect led police on a long high speed chase from Northeast Philadelphia to Delaware County. It started around 8:20 p.m. near Tyson and Torresdale Avenues when police attempted to pull him over. The driver did not comply and continued to drive. Police believed he may have been intoxicated. They pursued him down I-95 South and eventually up I-476 North. At one point, he lost one of his tires and sparks flew from his rim. The suspect ditched his vehicle near the Villanova exit of the Blue Route and ran into a wooded area. Authorities closed I-476 during the pursuit. The man was not caught, but authorities know who he is. The highway was reopened.

Philadelphia Police say that two girls who reported being abducted in Strawberry Mansion on Monday night, 5/9, admitted to lying about the incident. The girls, ages 11 and 12, told police that they were pulled into a white van while playing near 32nd and Diamond streets around 7:30 p.m. They said the men drove around and dropped them off at 30th and Norris Streets. The girls also said that there was a 7-year-old boy in the van with duct tape on his mouth. While questioning the girls, police found inconsistencies in their statements. They also did not believe that there was a boy involved. Eventually the girls admitted to falsely reporting the abduction.
