A New Jersey man who conspired with his then girlfriend and a homeless veteran to create a false feel good story, and turned that into a $400,000 GoFundMe scam was sentenced on Friday, 4/1, on federal charges. Mark D'Amico will serve 27 months in prison followed by three years of probation. He must also pay restituion and undergo gambling, drug and mental health counseling. He pled guilty in November 2021 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. His co-conspitators, Katelyn McClure and Johnny Bobbitt Jr. previously pled guilty to state and federal charges. The three of them concocted a feelgood story that homeless man Bobbitt gave his only $20 to McClure for gas after she became stranded on I-95 in 2017. The story continues that McClure and D'Amico decided to create a fundraiser out of gratitude for his kindness. The GoFundMe campaign and the story of Bobbitt's 'generosity' grew exponentially. The truth is that the episode on the highway did not happen. The three met near a Philadelphia casino a few months earlier and devised the plan. They may have gotten away with it, however, the couple spent the money lavishly. Part of the ruse was for Bobbitt to get treatment and living necessities, like food, housing, transportation, but the couple wasn't really giving him any of the money. He sued for his share and forensic accountants discovered what had been going on.

Buddy the Cat will be heading home to a foster family as he continues to heal following surgery at the Pennsylvania SPCA. The cat was attacked by two dogs on March 22 in Frankford. A 17-year-old and a 12-year-old have been arrested for sicking their dogs on the cat. The incident was caught on video. The juveniles are charged with felony animal fighting, felony aggravated animal cruelty, and conspiracy. The PSPCA took the dogs into custody and are continuing to monitor their behavior.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after multiple suspects robbed a daycare and released pepper spray in the common area as they were leaving. It happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Munchkins to Masterminds Daycare on the 5400 block of W. Girard Avenue in West Philadelphia. Three armed suspects, at least of whom was female, entered the daycare that was full of toddlers and staff. They stole an iPad and left. As they were leaving, one suspect sprayed pepper spray into a common area. Seven children ages 1-3 and two staff members were in the vicinity of the spray. Medics arrived and treated them all on scene. No arrests have been made.
