An 18-year-old has been charged in connection to the death of his 4-year-old younger brother who accidentally shot and killed himself in Coatesville last month. 18-year-old Victor Lara-Ortiz is charged with involuntary manslaughter, firearms not to be carried without a license, endangering the welfare of a child, and related offenses in the death of 4-year-old Roman Aguilera-Ortiz. It happened on February 28 on the 300 block of East Chestnut Street. "Lara-Ortiz left his bedroom door open and unlocked with a loaded semi-automatic Glock-model pistol unholstered and unsecured on a table in his bedroom," Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said. "There were no safety precautions made whatsoever to secure the gun in any way. Police confirmed that Roman entered the room, took the firearm from the table and accidentally shot himself one time in the head." 31-year-old William Thomas of Coatesville is also charged in the case for making a straw purchase for Lara-Ortiz. He is charged with illegally purchasing and transferring the firearm to Lara-Ortiz, delivery of firearms to a minor, attempted purchases of illegal firearms, and related offenses. Thomas bought the gun at a gun shop in Gap Township, Lancaster County, and then gave it to Lara-Ortiz.

A man wanted for stabbing two Museum on Modern Art (MoMA) employees in New York City over the weekend was arrested early Tuesday morning, 3/15, at a bus terminal in Philadelphia. 60-year-old Gary Cabana was found sleeping on a bench around 1:30 a.m. at the Greyhound station at 10th and Filbert in Chinatown. He was taken into custody without incident. Cabana's membership to the museum had recently been revoked due to repeated disturbances. On Saturday afternoon, 3/12, he jumped over the reception desk at MoMA and stabbed a 24-year-old man and women after he was denied entrance. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Philadelphia police began looking for Cabana Monday evening, 3/14. Fire and police were called to a fire in a fifth floor room at the Best Western in Center City on the 1200 block of Vine Street. Fire investigators determined it was an arson. Records showed it was rented by Cabana. He was located a few blocks away at the bus terminal.

Three teenage boys accidentally shot an 80-year-old grandmother while playing with a gun on Tuesday afternoon, 3/15, in West Oak Lane. It happened on the 2300 block of 77th Avenue. The woman’s grandson and two friends were playing with the weapon in a second floor bedroom when it went off. The bullet went through the floor and struck the wheelchair-bound woman downstairs. She suffered a graze wound to the head and was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition. No word on where the gun came from. The boys were taken into custody.
