Deadly Carjacking Ringleader Arrested; Body Found on Kelly Drive; Shooting Victim Drives to Casino

The suspected leader of a Philadelphia carjacking leader has been arrested. 28-year-old Jonathan Akubu of Lansdowne, Delaware County, is charged with the murder of two people, aggravated assault for shooting two others, robbery, and gun offenses. He could be responsible for four dozen carjackings. Akubu is accused of killing 60-year-old George Briscella outside his mother's home in Northeast Philadelphia. He is also accused of killing a woman named Aya Gabasi. Akubu has a history of arrests including aggravated assault, robbery, and firearms offenses. Carjackings year-to-date are more than double than last year.

Philadelphia police are investigating after a burned body was discovered near Kelly Drive in the Brewerytown neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, 2/20. Police responded to the 3200 block of West Thompson Street for a report of a person screaming. When they arrived, the person pointed them to the area of Brewery Hill Drive and Kelly Drive. The remains were found behind a tree and appeared to have been burned. After the scene was processed, they were transported to the medical examinerâ€™s office for examination.

A man, who was shot several times in Old City, drove his bullet ridden car to Rivers Casino in Fishtown before collapsing outside on Monday night, 2/2. It started around 9 p.m. on the 400 block of North Front Street in Old City. The unidentified man in his 20s was involved in a shootout at that location. He then drove a half mile to the casino on the 1000 block of North Delaware Avenue. He pulled into the valet area, got out of the vehicle and collapsed. He was shot multiple times in the side. The man was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. His white Audi had 15 gun shots in the driver side. Bullet casings were found inside the car which indicates the man was firing back. No arrests have been made.
