The largest restaurant in Philadelphia's history is set to open this spring along Penn's Landing. FCM Hospitality, owned by Avram Hornik, announced that Liberty Point would open in April. The restaurant will span 28,000 sqft over three levels. It will be located next to the Independence Seaport Museum. It is split between indoor and outdoor seating areas. The restaurant will have five bars, a stage for live music and entertainment, and private event areas. FCM Hospitality also operates Morgan's Pier, Harper's Garden, Juno, Lola's Garden, Rosy's Taco Bar, Concourse Dance Bar, The Dolphin Tavern, Garden at Cherry St Pier, and River Beer Garden.
The body of a Philadelphia woman who had been missing since last month was discovered on the campus of Delaware college on Wednesday, 2/9. 59-year-old Kim Ezell aka 'Darlene' was found inside a vehicle in a fenced-in area at the Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton Campus on 400 Stanton-Christiana Road in Newark, DE. Her cause of death has not been released. Ezell was reported missing on January 5. Family members had gone to her home on the 1700 block of West Allegheny Avenue in Philadelphia after she had stopped answering calls. When they arrived, Ezell was missing and her roommate, 78-year-old Stanley Lawton, had been shot to death. A few days later, 31-year-old Walter M. Heard was charged in connection to Lawton's death. Heard is the landlord's son. There was apparently a rent dispute between Ezell and Heard. No charges have been filed in relation to her disappearance and death. The investigation is ongoing.
A Delaware County volunteer fire company has been suspended after members were recorded making racist comments in a virtual meeting. The meeting was held to discuss consolidation of services between Briarcliffe, Goodwill, and Darby fire companies in Delaware County. Members of the companies as well as state and county officials were on the call. At the end of the meeting, members of Briarcliffe Volunteer Fire Company remained connected. They used racial slurs to talk about African American firefighters and citizens in the area. Someone also make jokes about 8-year-old Fanta Bility's name. Bility was shot and killed by police last August. They did not know that Goodwill members were still on the line. Goodwill Fire Company reported the behavior of Briarcliffe. The fire company will remained suspended pending an investigation by the Delaware County District Attorney. Emergency calls will be answered by other companies in the county.
