Missing Jonathan Morris Found Dead, 1 Arrested; Philly PD Vaccine Arbitration; RiteAid Security Shot

A missing New Jersey man has been found dead and a suspect has been arrested for his murder. 23-year-old Jonathan J. Morris was last seen on Friday, 1/28, driving his mother's BMW in Bridgeton, Cumberland County. The vehicle was found running near the intersection of Barretts Run Road and Archie Platt Road in Bridgeton's Hopewell section, but Morris was missing. His body was discovered in that area off the roadway, covered in snow on Monday night, 1/31. 21-year-old Miguel Perez has been charged with murder, weapons offenses, desecration of human remains, evidence tampering, hindering, obstruction, escape, and receiving stolen property. Police say that he shot and killed Morris in the car on Friday. He discarded the body off of Archie Platt Road and abandoned the vehicle. Perez then tried to get rid of evidence. The weekend snow storm covered the body in snow hindering searches. Authorities have not given a possible motive. The investigation continues.

An arbitration panel ruled on Tuesday, 2/1, that Philadelphia Police officers must abide by the city's vaccine mandate. Officers have until February 11 to receive at least their first dose. Those that follow through and become fully vaccinated will receive a bonus of up to $500. Those who do not comply will have to be double-masked and submit to regular testing. Police can also apply for religious or medical exemptions, but they would still need to follow the mask and testing protocols. Starting March 1, anyone who is still not vaccinated will need to take unvaccinated leave. The panel plans to meet next month to determine what happens to those who continue to remain unvaccinated. The force is currently 71-80% vaccinated.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect wanted for shooting a Rite Aid security guard after a confrontation in North Philly on Tuesday evening, 2/1. It started just before 9 p.m. inside the store near Broad and Oxford Streets. A man and a woman were inside the store causing a disturbance. The security guard asked them to leave and escorted them both outside. He led them to the parking lot of the AMC Theatre next door. That's were the man and the 41-year-old male guard got into an altercation. The man pulled out a gun and shot the guard in the foot. The couple then fled. The security guard was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
