12yo Girl Assaulted Repeatedly in Chester County; Old Bryn Athyn Station Fire; Philly Cop Son Killed

A Chester County man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl for almost two years. 70-year-old George Berry of Downingtown is charged with 15 counts of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, and related offenses. Downingtown police officers responded to Brandywine Hospital for a report of the sexual assault of a young girl on January 6th. Following an interview with the victim, it was determined that she had been assaulted dozens of times between January 2020 and December 2021. The child lived in a home with her mother and Berry. "George Berry engaged in a systemic pattern of horrific abuse of a child he had a duty to protect. Now, a 12-year-old must live with the memories of suffering and harm he inflicted on her. We will prosecute this man to the fullest extent to bring justice and healing to the victim," Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said in a statement. Berry was apprehended in Houston, TX, on January 12 and was extradited back to Chester County. He is being held in Chester County Prison on $1 million cash bail.

Montgomery County fire crews were called out to battle an early morning blaze at a historic building in Bryn Athyn on Monday, 1/24. It started around 3:50 a.m. at 2560 Fettersmill Road, Lower Moreland, located next to the closed bridge over Pennypack Creek. The building was the original station house for the train service in Bryn Athyn. It was built in 1870. The old Fox Chase-Newtown SEPTA rail line tracks were converted into the hiking/biking Pennypack trail in 2015. The current Bryn Athyn Post Office is located just across the trail. The building was uninhabited due to flooding issues. Fire crews were able to contain the fire in about an hour. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced at a press conference that the 23-year-old man killed during a robbery in North Philadelphia early Monday morning, 1/24, was the son of a police officer. It happened around 4:40 a.m. on the 1400 block of West Allegheny Avenue near Broad Street. The victim was shot 9 times. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released the victim's name. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Hyram Hill. His father works in the 12th District.
