Deadly Christmas Fire in Quakertown, GoFundMe Stopped; Fatal SEPTA Crash; Philly Tree Recycling

Tragedy struck early Christmas morning in Bucks County. Fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning along Essex Court in Quakertown. "Three family members are deceased as a result of the fire," Quakertown Police Chief Scott McElree said. "We are looking at the Christmas tree that may have ignited as a result of Christmas lights on that Christmas tree." Firefighters arrived to heavy flames coming from the twin home. They attempted to enter the house but were not able to rescue the victims. 41-year-old Eric King, 11-year-old Liam, and 8-year-old Patrick along with two dogs died in the blaze. Eric's wife Kristen and their oldest son Brady were able to escape the fire. A family of four in the adjacent home were also able to escape. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The organizer of a GoFundMe fundraiser for the King family has decided to stop receiving new donations. The fundraiser had collected $608,970 at the time it was stopped. The organizers have created a different fundraiser on GiveInKind where you can donate needed gift cards to the family. "Due to people creating fake Go Fund Me pages with the same picture and receiving some insensitive and extremely rude emails and comments, we have decided to stop accepting donations through Go Fund Me at this time. I have received some tasteless emails and threats and I am no longer comfortable having this open."

A woman died after crashing into the back of a SEPTA bus in West Philadelphia on Sunday morning, 12/26. It happened just before 8:30 a.m. on the 7500 block of Haverford Avenue in Overbrook Park. The 48-year-old woman was driving a black BMW sedan when she struck the rear of the bus. She was taken to Lankenau Medical Center and pronounced dead at 10:42. The bus driver and a passenger were also transported to hospital in stable condition. The identity of the female driver has not been released.
