Governor Tom Wolf announced on Monday, 11/8, that he intends to return the decision over mask requirements for K-12 students to local school districts once the current mask mandate expires on January 17, 2022. He says it is "time to prepare for a transition back to a more normal setting." The mandate will stay in place for early learning programs and child care facilities. The mandate was imposed in September and was controversial from the start among many parents and districts across state. There are two pending lawsuits against the measure.

"Now, we are in a different place than we were in September, and it is time to prepare for a transition back to a more normal setting," Wolf said in a statement released by his office. "Unfortunately, the COVID-19 virus is now a part of our daily lives, but with the knowledge we've gained over the past 20 months and critical tools like the vaccine at our disposal, we must take the next step forward in our recovery."

A school bus loaded with children lost control and crashed into a creek in Northampton County on Monday morning, 11/8. It happened just after 7:30 a.m. on the 500 block of Bushkill Drive. The bus had 29 students from the Easton Area Middle School on board. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but the bus veered off the roadway for some reason and into the shallow Bushkill Creek. Around 7 students were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. A couple of parents separately took their children to be checked out. The bus driver was transported to the hospital as a precaution. No one was seriously injured. The crash is under investigation.

Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid has entered the NBA's health and safety protocols after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday, 11/8. He is expected to miss the next several games. He becomes the fourth Sixer to recently enter the protocols joining Tobias Harris, Isaiah Joe and Matisse Thybulle. Players in the protocol must wait a minimum of 10 days to return or test negative twice, 24-hours apart. The Sixers play the Knicks in New York on Monday night and the Milwaukee Bucks at home on Tuesday, 10/9.
