Willow Grove Mall Upskirt Suspect Wanted; 4th Grader Shoot Airsoft on Bus; Philly Driver Equity Bill

Abington Township police are looking for a suspect wanted for allegedly filming a woman inside a mall dressing room. It happened on August 29 inside a store at Willow Grove Park Mall. The young woman was trying on clothes when she noticed the suspect trying to film her under the door. She notified the store employees, but the man had fled. Police reviewed surveillance footage. They released an image of the suspect taken from the surveillance cameras. He is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 30s. He was wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, and black sneakers. He was driving a white newer model Volkswagen Golf or GTI with a roof rack. Police also found additional footage of the suspect trying to take upskirt images of other female shoppers. Two students from Charles Kelly Elementary in Upper Darby have been suspended after shooting classmates with an airsoft pellet gun while riding to school on the bus. It happened on Wednesday morning, 10/13, before school. A fourth grade student brought the toy gun to the bus stop. The student shot two students, both were hit the leg and one was also hit in the arm. Once on the bus the student shot a third student in the arm. A second student took the gun and fired at the student who had bene hit in the arm. No one was injured. Parents were notified when the bus arrived at school. The investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, 10/14, Philadelphia City Council passed a bill prohibiting Philadelphia police officers from pulling drivers over for certain minor secondary driving offenses. These include infractions like broken taillights and expired inspections. Police will still make traffic stops for safety violations such as speeding, running redlights and stop signs, or other reckless driving offenses. City Council voted 14-2 to pass the bill. It will go into effect 120 days after it is signed by Mayor Jim Kenney to allow time for training for officers. Officers who observe these secondary violations can still write a citation, which would be mailed to the driver.

This bill is being touted as the Driver Equity bill and a win for people of color. Data shows that people of color in the city are pulled over 3.4 times as much as white residents. Bill sponsor Councilmember Isaiah Thomas said, "By removing the traffic stops that promote discrimination rather than public safety, City Council has made our streets safer and more equitable. With this vote, I breathe a sigh of relief that my sons and my friendsâ€™ children will grow up in a city where being pulled over is not a rite of passage but a measure of the safety of your driving and vehicle, regardless of the skin color of the driver."

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded 3x Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals for CB Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round pick. 30-year-old Ertz was drafted by the Eagles in 2013. He was emotional during a press conference on Friday, 10/15. "This is home. Philadelphia is home," Ertz said speaking to reporters Friday. "That was tough, to kind of articulate that to people. I love this people. I've said it all along... I did the best I could every day. I can leave knowing that. This isn't going to be the last you'll see of me in this city."
