Pennsylvania State Representative Kevin Boyle (D, Phila.) was arrested on Friday, 9/24, for harassment and violation of a protection from abuse order. 41-year-old Boyle has represented PA District 172 which includes Northeast Philadelphia and parts of Montgomery County since 2011. The protection order had been filed by his wife.

"It is important to note that Kevin Boyle is not accused of any act of violence. By agreement with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, Kevin is scheduled for a mental health evaluation. He intends to follow through with all court, mental health and medical recommendations, including treatment. We are confident that with treatment, Kevin can return to full health, resolve these charges, and continue serving his constituents," Boyles lawyer Emmett Madden said in a statement.

His brother, Representative Brendan Boyle, said that Kevin is dealing with mental health issues. Governor Tom Wolf said, "I think he ought to resign," Wolf said Monday. "I think everybody deserves to [have] treatment for mental illness and he deserves to go through that treatment... I think while he goes through that treatment, he should not serve in the legislature." The Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus is calling on him to step down. He had already been removed from his position as the House Finance Committee chairman last week before this incident for unknown reasons.

Police in Montgomery County are looking for a suspect wanted for a shooting at a Wawa in Plymouth Meeting early Sunday morning, 9/27, that injured two people. It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the store located on the 1300 block of E. Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township. 26-year-old Kyeem Sheirron Whitt of Norristown is charged with attempted murder and related offenses. (see photo below.) The gunfire erupted in the parking lot of the store. The two victims, a man and a woman in their 40s, were found inside the store suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. If you have any information, contact Plymouth Township Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 610-279-1901.

The City of Philadelphia passed 400 murders for 2021 over this passed weekend. The grim milestone is up 18% year-to-date from last year's near record year. "I am heartbroken and outraged that we've lost more than 400 Philadelphians to preventable violence this year. My heart goes out to all families suffering from enormous grief. Our administration continues to act with urgency to reduce violence and save lives," said Mayor Jim Kenney. "We should all be outraged that senseless, preventable violence continues to claim and break lives here in Philadelphia and in communities across the country that are also experiencing alarming increases in gun violence," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. "Our department continues to make a record number of crime gun confiscations, and a record number of arrests of the individuals in possession of them. However, this is not nearly enough. We will continue to work with our law enforcement and community partners to bring to justice those who seek to cause harm to our beautiful city and its people," said Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.
