Philadelphia Police released surveillance footage of a drive-by shooting in North Philadelphia that left 1 man dead and 5 others injured. It happened just before 2:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of West Chew Avenue near Broad Street in the Fern Rock neighborhood. A group of people were standing on the sidewalk when a silver Chrysler 300 drove down the block. Someone in the back seat opened fire through the rear passenger window. 26-year-old Steven Jones was killed. 4 other males and 1 female ages 19 to 28-years-old were all injured in the shooting. Police are searching for multiple suspects in the case. There is a $20,000 reward. If you have any information, contact police at 215-686-TIPS.

The Philadelphia Department of Health announced new guidelines for when schools should pause in-person learning due to cases of coronavirus COVID-19. The previous guidance called for closing the entire school if there were 6 or more case (within a 14-day window). Now that has been relaxed to 3% of the school population infected before it is all shutdown. The new guidance also has different instructions for quarantine and pausing individual classes, grades, and cohorts depending on the number of cases.

ESPN sources report that Philadelphia 76ers Ben Simmons will not report to training camp next week and intends to never play another game for the Sixers. Simmons still has 4 years left on his max contract. Philadelphia could withhold his salary if he does intentionally sit out games and fine him for missing practices and other required appearances. Simmons' lackluster performance in the 2021 playoffs affected his value on the trade market. The Sixers were not satisfied with any offer received over the summer.
