Biden Reveals Vaccine Requirements; Pat Croce's Assistant Killed in Accident; Boy in Stolen Car Safe

President Joe Biden outlined several new measures to fight the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday evening, 9/9. This spring, people were lining up for vaccines, but by the summer, officials had turned to bribes and incentives to try and get people to get the shot. Now, Biden is ready to require people to get inoculated in order to participate in society. "We've been patient, but our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us," Biden said. Companies with 100 or more employees will have to vaccinate their workforce or have them undergo weekly tests. This will be an OSHA rule with a $14,000 fine per violation. All federal and government contract workers will have to be vaccinated. Health care workers at facilities that receive Medicare or Medicaid will have to be vaccinated. He calls on companies to provide paid time off for workers to get the vaccine. Biden is also using the Defense Production Act to have more test kits made and sold at cost. Fines for not wearing masks on airplanes will be doubled. He also asked entertainment venues and arenas to require vaccinations or proof of a negative test for entry. 80 million people in the United States are not vaccinated.

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle after a car accident in Philadelphia's Wissinoming neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, 9/9. It happened just before 2:30 p.m. at Comly Street and Harbison Avenue. The 65-year-old woman was on foot when she was hit by one of the vehicles. She was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m. The crash was initially thought to be a hit-and-run, but it is being investigated as just a fatal crash. Both drivers remained or returned to the scene of the crash. Police have not officially identified the victim, however, Philadelphia entrepreneur and former 76ers' president Pat Croce stated that she was his longtime assistant Sue Barbacane.

Philadelphia Police found a baby boy unharmed after the car he was in the back of a car that was stolen outside a takeout restaurant on Wednesday night, 9/8. It happened around 10 p.m. at Cottman Avenue and Horrocks Street in Northeast Philadelphia. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says that the boy's mother left him in the backseat asleep with the car running and went in to pick up food. The suspect jumped in the 2013 black and blue Volkswagen and drove off. Police found the car abandoned near Tabor Road and Adams Avenue in Crescentville. The boy was safe and the suspect had fled. Police are on the lookout for the suspect.
