Philadelphia Police have released new images of two vehicles being sought in the deadly hit-and-run of a mother and her son last month in Hunting Park. It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday, 8/8, under an overpass on the 100 block of West Luzerne Street, between Rising Sun Avenue and American Street. 37-year-old Rebecca Malave was walking with 3-year-old Armani Negron not far from their home when they were hit. Malave died in the hospital a few days after the accident. Armani remains at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children with a traumatic brain injury.
Captain Mark Overwise, commanding officer of the Philadelphia Police Department's Accident Investigation Division, said, "Rebecca and Armani disappear out of camera range, and shortly after, a dark-colored 2011 Chrysler 300 entered the underpass and in the video, we can see the brake light activate." A red Toyota Camry immediately followed the Chrysler. (see photo below) Police do not know which is the striking vehicle. There is a $30,000 reward. If you have any information, call 215-686-TIPS.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has asked President Joe Biden to declare a major disaster for parts of the state affected by Hurricane Ida last week. The storm brought flash flooding in many neighborhoods, record river flooding along the Schuylkill River, as well as with damaging tornadoes. "I am requesting a federal disaster declaration because Pennsylvanians and our communities need and deserve critical support as they recover from significant damages to their homes and public infrastructure," Gov. Wolf said. The governor's request includes a major disaster declaration for Individual Assistance for Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and York counties; Public Assistance for Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Fulton, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and York counties; and for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to be made available to all 67 counties of the Commonwealth.
Wolf toured Bridgeport, Montgomery County, on Wednesday, 9/8. The town sits on the banks of the Schuylkill River and was hit with severe flooding. Montco's Multi-Agency Resource Center will be open again on Thursday at 2 W. Lafayette Street in Norristown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Norristown Area High School was placed on lockdown on Wednesday morning, 9/8, after a threatening call. The students were then evacuated and dismissed early. The nature of the threat was not disclosed. Norristown Area School District Superintendent Christopher Donner tweeted, "Everyone is safe at NAHS. No threats have been found. Staff and students have been amazing in their cooperation and understanding." |
