SEPTA Proposes Changes to Transit Names; NJ Major Disaster Areas; Man Found in Mount Holly

SEPTA is proposing a new naming, lettering, and coloring scheme for the public transit system. They say they have been doing extensive research and soliciting feedback from customers. They came up with this $40 million rebrand that will make it easier for riders to find their way. "The result is a plan that will result in new, consistent signage across the system - highlighting SEPTA's modes of travel as an interconnected, seamless network that can get you points across the Greater Philadelphia Region affordably, quickly and safely," the spokesperson said.

The transit system, which now includes the Broad Street Line, the Market-Frankford El, various trollies, and the Norristown High Speed Line, will collectively be referred to as SEPTA Metro. The Broad Street Line will be called the 'B Line', the Market-Frankford El will be called the 'L Line', and the Trollies (including the 101 and 102) will be called the 'T Lines'. The Norristown High Speed Line will be called the 'M Line' for Montgomery (I say it should stand for Main Line). SEPTA wants your feedback. President Joe Biden toured parts of New Jersey on Tuesday, 9/7, to survey areas hit hard by Hurricane Ida last week. He was joined by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in Manville, NJ. Ida brought record flooding and dangerous tornados. 27 people were killed by the storm in the Garden State. The federal government named Bergen, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Passaic and Somerset counties as major disaster areas. The major disaster declaration will allow individual businesses and homeowners to apply directly to FEMA for assistance. You can register at https://www.disasterassistance.gov.

"Many residents of our state are facing a long road ahead as they recover from Ida," said Governor Murphy. "I am very grateful to the Biden Administration and FEMA for their swift approval of the Major Disaster Declaration for six of our counties. I urge residents and businessowners in those counties to visit FEMA's website and begin the application process. We also urge residents outside of the six counties to register their information at nj.gov/idaso that we can be ready to get dollars into the hands of additional New Jerseyans as soon as we are able."

FEMA teams were inspecting areas of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, 9/7, that were hit hard by tornados during Ida. Get updates at www.montcopa.org/ida.

Police are trying to identify the body of a man found behind a convenience store in Burlington County, New Jersey, on Tuesday afternoon, 9/7. A juvenile made the discovery around 12:30 p.m. behind Millerie's Market on the 100 block of Rancocas Road in Mount Holly. The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office says the man is white, 5' 6", black hair, facial hair, 25-35 years old. Foul play has not been ruled out. The Burlington County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. If you have any information, call investigators at 609-265-7113.

UPDATE: The man has been identified as 31-year-old Sean Reynolds of Brick Township, Ocean County. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Legendary Thomas Jefferson University Men's Basketball head coach Herb Magee says he will retire at the end of the 2021-2022 season. 80-year-old Magee is second all-time in wins for an NCAA coach, behind Duke's Coach K. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. He started as an assistant coach at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science in 1963 and became head coach in 1967. The school was also named Philadelphia University before merging with Jefferson. Magee played for West Catholic High School and Philadelphia Textile. He is known as the "Shot Doctor" and is sought after by NBA pros to help work on their shots.
