House Explosion in West Brandywine, 6 Injured; Body Found in Yeadon; Severe Storms in Montco

2 adults and 4 children were injured after a home exploded in Chester County on Wednesday, 7/21. It happened just before 12 p.m. on the 400 block of Hibernia Road in West Brandywine Township. The sprawling property has numerous buildings and a large pool. The family was in the main farmhouse at the time the explosion happened. The blast was felt in the township municipal building and police department located across the street. They were able to respond immediately. The four-alarm fire brought over two dozen fire companies from across the area to help fight the blaze. Firefighters used the pool and a pond on the property to draw water. Tanker trucks were also called in to bring more water. All of the victims suffered burn injuries. One adult and two children were airlifted from the scene by medivac. Two other children were taken by ambulance. One adult refused treatment. Local and federal officials are at the scene. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Police are investigating after the body of a man was found in a parking lot in Delaware County on Wednesday morning, 7/21. It happened just before 7:30 a.m. on the 6200 block of Baltimore Avenue in Yeadon. A person discovered the body in a parking lot next to a warehouse across the street from Fernwood Cemetery. Investigators believe the victim was kidnapped in Wilmington, Delaware. Surveillance footage from the time shows a vehicle in the area. Police are already searching for two potential suspects. "You can't do anything in this world without being on video, and these idiots are on video. So my suggestion is set a place at the table, 'cause we'll be coming," said Yeadon Police Chief Anthony Paparo.

Severe storms rolled through the area on Wednesday afternoon, 7/21, causing power outages, downed trees and limbs, and hail up to 1" in diameter. Straight line winds up to 70-80 mph were observed in areas of Montgomery County causing extensive damage. A microburst around 3:30 p.m. in areas like Blue Bell, Whitemarsh, Abington, Glenside, and Jenkintown produced large hail and strong winds. Thousands were without power after trees were toppled. PECO crews are working to restore electricity to tens of thousands of customers.

Unfortunately, extensive wind damage was observed today in portions of Montgomery County.
