Brian Dawkins Retires, Camden Cracks Down on Dumpers, Cab Surcharges, Man Jumped in Front of Train

A man wanted for murder in New York was killed this morning when he jumped in front of a SEPTA train between Jenkintown and Noble stations. The suspect's truck was spotted speeding down Route 309 found abandoned at the Jenkintown Elementary School, triggering a lockdown of the school districts 600 students. A pair of officers stopped the man, Thomas W. Borden, 33, near Rodman Ave. and Old York Road in Abington. He broke away and ran through a yard, down an embankment and onto the commuter tracks towards Philadelphia as Police followed. He was running along the rails as the West Trenton Local approached, Borden then jumped in front of the train. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Camden Authorities have a message to illegal dumpers; we are watching. Called â€œOperation Hawkeyeâ€, Police have been cracking down on anyone who is dumping illegally everything from tires, construction debris, furniture, even dogs and cats on the vacant lots and streets of Camden, NJ. They have been using some sophisticated equipment including motion-activated video cameras with night vision, to catch potential dumpers in the act. Nine people have already been arrested with more to come from identifications of the surveillance. You could be next especially if you dare to try.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority, which controls taxi operations, voted to add a floating surcharge to the cost of a cab ride in Philly. There have been temporary surcharges imposed before, such as last summer, but this one will be constant and based on the average price per gallon for the previous month. April is at $4.04 a gallon in the region, so starting May 1st your cab ride will have an extra $1.20 surcharge. That surcharge will change monthly as regional gas prices fluctuate. Cab drivers are happy since they have been suffering under rising fuel costs.

In Sports, Free Safety Brian Dawkins, announced his retirement after 16 years in the NFL - 13 with the Philadelphia Eagles. One of the most popular and respected players in franchise history, the 7 time pro bowler will be honored by the Eagles before the Giants game on Sept 30th at Lincoln Financial Field.
